Everyone celebrates Christmas a little differently. Some towns have traditions related to their area’s history. Other places prefer to highlight how their community brings a unique twist to the holiday. And while some Christmas customs remain universal wherever you go – like Christmas trees and candy canes – other traditions make a place a worthwhile getaway you must see in December. Christmas on Hilton Head is one of those places.

Holiday Lights at Shelter Cove

December 1-31, 2021

Nothing is more unique to a Hilton Head Christmas celebration than what you find at Shelter Cove during the season. Let the malls deck the halls – in Hilton Head, we deck the docks! You’ll see the marina a-light with festively decorated boats, and the boardwalk decked out with even more colorful displays. Stroll along in comfortable weather as you shop the local businesses for presents to go under your tree.

Winter Wonderland Festival

December 3-23, 2021

Because temperatures in Hilton Head are still relatively mild in December, attending an outdoor festival can be a fun way to prepare for the holiday season. So bring the kids to this free event at Shelter Cove Community Park evenings between 4 pm – 7 pm to see Santa, bounce in bounce houses, or go on a candy cane hunt. Adults will have fun with the carnival games and other goodies.

The Sounds of Christmas

December 10, 2021

First Presbyterian Church is a must-visit this one evening each Christmas season. Be sure to purchase tickets in advance so you and your family can be whisked away with the joy brought by the Hilton Head Choral Society.

Put it on your bucket list – you simply must see what the magic of Christmas on Hilton Head Island looks like. Make your Christmas vacation to our island a new tradition you revisit year after year.
