We live in Hilton Head Island, so it’s easy for us to see the upgrades to the already bicyclist and pedestrian friendly community we have here.  However, if you’ve never been here, or if you’ve been here before and didn’t try biking to get around, we’d like to put a suggestion in the box.

Biking in Hilton Head Island is easy, and quite safe according to the League of American Cyclists.  Our little town has been recognized as one of the top 25 bicycle-friendly communities in the US, and one of only 21 places to receive the Gold Level Bicycle Friendly Community award!  Not only that, but we’re the ONLY community in the southeast to receive this prestigious honor.

What does that mean?  The Gold distinction recognizes investments into the improvement of bicycling conditions by promoting biking, education programs, infrastructure development, and pro-biking policies.  The effort that went into winning had considerable volunteer support from the local cycling community, and we’ll be in the Gold-level status through 2019!

We’re certainly happy about the prestige, but the best part for us is the community involvement in gaining the honor.  Like we said, we get to live here, so we see it everyday.  But the fact that is largely a result of community support shows us just how important bike safety, bike culture, and biking in general is for this little island!

Remember, the easiest way to get around is on a bike, and you don’t have to bring one with you to enjoy the perks!  Give us a call today, browse our stock of bikes, and let us know if there’s anything else we can provide you with for your stay here at Hilton Head.
