Summer is coming; vacation is getting closer. Are you ready? Of course you already have your trip booked and time off from work. You’ve been dreaming about everything you’ll be doing, including relaxing on the beach. As departure time approaches, you might want to get down to the nitty gritty about what you want to bring with you.

The Right Luggage

When you are going on a trip to the beach, the last thing you want is to be weighed down by bulky, leather suitcases. Consider more flexible options that can alter their shape to fit into your trunk. Canvas is the way to go. Try duffle bags. Wheeled options are helpful too. Just remember that your luggage for a beach trip should be light so that you can get your mind – and body – in a relaxing place.

The Right Attire

Shorts and short sleeves are a no-brainer. But what are you likely to forget? How about an extra bathing suit? After you wash your suit out on the first day, it might take a little while for it to dry out. And what’s more uncomfortable than putting on a wet swimsuit? You know you’re going to be on the beach every day you can be.

Which brings us to our next point. Make sure to plan for a rainy day as well. You don’t need to go overboard – a jacket and pair of long pants might be all you need.

The Right Beach Gear

You’re probably already set with your sunscreen. But there are a few other things you might want to think of as well. Bug spray is often helpful, in case your beach day is enjoyed by a few small, winged creatures, too. Not a fan of bringing the beach home with you? Pack some baby powder. Sprinkle it over your sandy limbs, and the sand will brush off easily. If you want to make sure your gear stays organized and protected from water and sand, bring along several sizes of resealable plastic bags. Also make sure you have a shade plan – some way to take cover when the sun gets to be too much. An umbrella, whether brought or rented, can allow for an even longer day at the beach.

The Right Snacks

Although Hilton Head has plenty of great eateries for you to sample, you will probably want some finger food to tide the kids over or take to the beach. Some considerations? Perhaps bring cold black tea. It can be dabbed on hot skin to cool off as well drinking to keep hydrated. Speaking of hydration, don’t skimp on beverages. Water is essential, and sports drinks are helpful to get the most of the fluids you drink. As far as snacks, think high fiber to be filling, and juicy to really keep everyone satisfied in the heat. Apples and oranges fit that bill very well.
